The 2026 New Mexico Optometric Association Mid-Year Convention offers 8 hours of quality continuing education for optometrists. In addition to the continuing education, this year’s convention will offer an hors d’oeuvres reception for all registrants on Friday, September 11, 2026
2026 NMOA Mid-Year Speakers

Chris Carver, OD
Dr. Christopher Carver is a graduate of the Southern College of Optometry and has 28 years of experience practicing in collaborative MD/OD settings in Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh region. His expertise includes cataract, refractive surgery, corneal disease, and glaucoma management. Prior to optometry, he taught high school physics. Dr. Carver helped develop and manage one of Pennsylvania’s first office-based surgery (OBS) centers and is passionate about advancing optometry’s role in OBS and modern glaucoma care through education and clinical innovation.

Kyle Sandberg, OD
Kyle Sandberg graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Microbiology with a minor in Psychology. He earned his Doctorate in Optometry and a Bachelor of Science in Vision Science from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. Following optometry school, he completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Ocular and Refractive Surgery at the Eye Center of Texas in Houston.
Dr. Sandberg joined the Rosenberg School of Optometry faculty in 2012 and is currently a tenured Associate Professor. At RSO, he acts as the Chief of Refractive Surgery and Laser Services and the Assistant Dean for Professional Advancement. He teaches in the classroom, laboratory, and clinic, and was awarded the Texas Optometric Association’s Educator of the Year in 2020. He serves the profession as a member of the TOA’s Legal and Legislative Committee and has served as the President of the Bexar County District Optometric Society.
Dr. Sandberg lectures on the local, state, national, and international levels on topics that cover refractive surgery, glaucoma, dry eye, and ocular disease. In his free time, he plays drums, guitar, and piano. He enjoys golf, travel, and spending time with his wife and their 6-year-old son.
